At elementary-AI, we have been trying to do our bit to support the fight against the Coronavirus.
One initiative we have put in place to apply our algorithms to dig deeper into how we are really faring against the complex set of changes taking place in our lives.
We analysed a sample of over 1,000 Youtube videos of people talking about the Coronavirus pandemic and pointed our algorithms at what they were saying (including traditional text sentiment analysis) combined with the facial expressions and tone of voice that further reveal underlying sentiment.
Whilst there is some discussion of the emotional impact in the media, the data indicates a strong emotional toll from this experience. The headlines are:
Quality of life is by far the main topic of discussion.
Within Quality of life, mental issues are discussed much more frequently than the virus or personal economics.
And, not surprisingly, the sentiment around mental issues is predominantly negative.
We are going to update the data with newly created videos to understand if and how sentiment is evolving. We will update you then.
